The wall pass
A wall pass (even known as the one-two or double pass) is a useful soccer tactic for working the ball through a tight defense. It is also great for beating your opponent’s offside trap, creating space for you in midfield and avoiding tight marking defenders. The move for this pass is pretty simple: You pass the ball to your teammate who immediately passes the ball back to you. It is crucial that both you and your teammate keep moving. You must also run into space directly after you have played the ball to you teammate.

The key elements when performing a one-two pass is timing and speed. Both you and your teammate should be weighted and timed so that you can receive and run with the ball in same moment. You need also to understand how your teammates are thinking to perform a one-two pass successfully. The only way to learn how they are thinking soccer is to practice together. And I can ensure you that more practice directly means better results.

The reason why a double pass is so effective is following: when the initial pass is made from you to your teammate, the tendency for your defender (the one that marks you) to turn and watch the ball rather than concentrate on his/her primary task which is to mark you. The defender will lose the track of you and create space for the return pass from your teammate.

So, if you are a defender instead, how can you beat a double pass effectively? One of the common strategies to use is following: simply step back quickly as soon as your opponent make the first pass. Purpose with this is to get back far enough, making it possible to step into your opponents passing lane. If your opponent then attempts a one-two pass, the ball will land at your feet first. Clever, don’t you think? :-)

You will perform a one-two many times in a soccer match and as you already know, a well performed wall pass is a danger attacking weapon. But remember, you must perform the pass with speed and determination; otherwise defender will easily learn how to stop you and also how you think in particular situations. Always think one step further and your opponents will get headache because they will not be able to stop you. Good Luck
